Fugitive Cat

We made it to Memphis. Well, sorta. We are technically in Arkansas but only 10 min from the Mississippi River and the land of Elvis.
No plans to see Graceland. Been there done that. I do want to check out Stax Records and pay my respects to my favorite soul singer of all time, Otis Redding.

Daphne is currently a fugitive. We had to sneak her into the hotel we are staying in. She has been awesome on this trip. I'm amazed at how little maintenance she has been. I didn't have to fight with her to get her into her cage. She pees and poops in the right places. I feel pretty lucky so far.

Ok I took a sleeping pill and am on the verge of talking about unicorns.

Here is a picture of my Daphne.

Deep in the heeeaaart of cow country.

Made it to Amarillo, TX. Thought we were here by 8 but forgot they are an hour ahead.

This town smells like cow poop. At first I thought it was Danny then Daphne. Then saw the mass fields of cows and almost threw up. They aren't free range that's for sure! Very nearly gave up meat again until we realized the only thing open was a Waffle House so of course I had bacon.

Tomorrow the goal is Memphis. I would like to spend a little time there revisiting Stax and Sun Studio. No need to see Graceland. The Jungle room is eternally burned into my brain from 11 years ago. My dad mentioned going to see the Peabody. If I can find a velvet painting then that would make this trip complete.

Daphne is doing really well. She might like traveling as much as I do. She seems to be enjoying herself actually. I'd like to see how she does outside her crate tomorrow.

Danny has been a riot. Friends like him last a life time.

I'm going to bed.

Toodles from Texas!!

New Mexico. We are in you!

Danny and I made it to Gallup, New Mexico. Only one tiny pee pee accident per Daphne but she has been pretty good otherwise.

Here are some photos of us being blown away at Meteor Crater.

Next update hopefully from Texas tonight.

Xoxo. Wind blown Sarah.

Away we go!

3 hours of sleep, having to drug my cat who now seems even more pissed off than before not to mention the crazy googlie eyes she has once the drugs kicked in. I can't find my hair brush so I'm looking homeless more than ever.
What a way to start off this trip.

Here is a picture of a freaking sunrise.

Moving on up to the East Side!

It's finally happening. What I planned only for 6 months turned into 5 years of living in Phoenix but I'm finally moving back to the mother land. No, not Russia although that would be cool. I'm moving back to Charlotte, North Carolina. Well stick a flower in my hair and call me Daisy!

When I told most people out here that I was moving back they responded with "why?". People in Phoenix seem to have amnesia. They always forget that it gets hotter than hell in this town. And it stays hot for several months. And then they complain about it when it reaches 120° F. If you don't like heat get out of the kitchen. I'm getting out of the kitchen.

I have a really awesome support system back in Charlotte. I took that for granted. Joni Mitchell was right. " you don't know what you got til it's gone". I never really found that support system of friends in Phoenix. I did meet some good people and I know I made a few life long friends but I met a lot of really terrible people too. I think the sun addled their minds perhaps. But it could be that misery loves company and sweet lord I've been a miserable person for far too long in this here valley.

It dawned on me a while ago that I was just floating around waiting for something or someone to make me happy. It took a lot of terrible times to realize that no one on this earth can make you happy but yourself. It's the biggest cliche ever but it's totally true. And you have to work really, really hard at being happy. So hard in fact that its not fun and you will lose the point of it all. I'm not even close to my happiness goal but I know in my heart I'm finally on the right track.

Anyway, in a few hours I'm going to pick up my best friend of a thousand years Danny, pack up my explosion of fur aka Daphne, pack up my clothes and hit the road east on I-40. I'll post pictures and little comments about stuff we see. You can probably expect some inappropriate humor but hey, it's me we are talking about here.

Reporting from the last day in Phoenix, Sarah.
